What should I do to prepare for a job interview as a juvenile probation officer?

So I have a job interview in a couple of days. The job title is Juvenile probation officer and it is with the state of Virginia. I have a B.S. in Criminal Justice and have worked with juvenile offenders before (but it was a decade ago). I have already started to review the Juvenile Justice system, courts, etc.. What questions do you think I should be prepared to answer and how do you think I should spend my time preping for the interview?

Come prepared with questions of your own so you can get a dialog going.... they are interviewing you and you are interviewing them. Here are some questions you could use:

What would a typical work day look like? Be prepared to be told there are no typical work days.

What are some of the biggest challenges you faced when you worked as a juvenile probation officer?

What aspect of the job did you find most rewarding?

How are cases tracked?

How is performance monitored?

They will trying to determine how you will fit into their structure and they will likely be trying to see how you react to stress. As such, they may ask you some "no right answer" questions. It's a good idea to briefly discuss both the pro and con side and then say something like... I would seek guidance from existing policies and procedures, my peers and/or my supervisor.

You should also be prepared to discuss you background in detail including why you are interested in working with juvenile offenders and why you haven't worked with them in the past decade.

Good luck!
