Hazardous work environment??!!?? |
My boyfriends has asthma as many people do. He has worked at a company for 1 1/2 years. There has always been an issue with strong perfumes and strong lotions. Usually they have sent an email reminder to be conscience of others around you and to limit strong smells and it usually stops. Recently, his bosses refuse to send out the email reminder and he has been sent to the ER for his asthma (inhalers don't work every time) at least 4 times in the past 3 months, recently 2 times in the past 3 days!! I think this is ridiculous that he has to go through this and even though his insurance is good he still is confronted with paying for this! Any advice of what to do if management and HR refuse to do anything?? I would think this would be considered a hazardous workplace...what do you think? I agree with unsafe work environment. First, has he documented when he has tried to talk to his boss and HR? I realize he would have paperwork from going to the ER, but putting down on paper when, where and who he talked to will help. Second, is there a "parent" company? If so, see if he can contact someone there, since he has tried to go through the "chain of command" at work. If there isn't, what about contacting OSHA and/or L & I? That would probably be his safest bet, since it is an unhealthy work environment. |
