Job Compensation?

I recently had my 2nd interview w/the hiring mgr&did really well. This position is between myself & 1 other candidate. They will be making a decision next week. I am going to followup w/them next Wed if I don't hear from them. I don't know the salary of this position yet&did complete an application listing my salary range that they have had time to review. After the 2nd mtg, I decided to call the recruiter to let her know my thoughts on the job&how I would very much like the opp, etc. I also clarified that the pay range listed on my resume matches what they are looking to pay for this job. I am thinking I may have lost this opp now. The recruiter didn't call me back yet. (just yesterday) People have now told me I should of asked the salary in the 1st mtg&I didn't becuz I didn't think you are suppose to bring it up unless they do. I am old school I guess. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. I really want this job!!!! I believe it is up to the Mgr ultimately at this point.

Don't stress. You did everything perfect. You verified the salary range, you told them what you wanted and now it's up to them. Salary is touchy on both sides and no one wants to talk about it until the last second. They will give you an offer and you can negotiate with them upwards if you think it is low.

The recruiter should be handling everything for you and you should be just fine. Don't call them repeatedly about that topic or you will worry them as well. Let it marinate for a while and let them come to you with an offer.

Keep applying to other jobs in the mean time and send nice thank you notes today, if you haven't already.

I think you should wait for a week as you know that they will be taking a decision by then. If they dont call you back, then give them a call asking for their final reply. You can tell them that you are keen on the position and if they are serious about you then you are ready to wait for some more time or else you would like to look for opportunities elsewhere.

Since you have gone through a recruiter for this position, he should have known before he even sent you on the interview what your range is and what the position pays. Most recruiters will not waste your time of the employers time by having someone interview for a position that is way over the salary limits.

This being said, you handled everything well, but you could have, and probably should have asked in the first interview what the salary range was to make sure you were both in the same range. Having called the recruiter afterwards should NOT have put the position in jeopardy for you as you are just asking a question. It is possible the recruiter is waiting for an answer from the potential employer before getting back to you.

Good luck, I hope you get the job!
