Contact HR or not? Please help!? |
I have 2 temps in the office that create a very hostile work environment. I have asked my manager to have them moved or move me. I assume they are working in this. This morning they asked a fellow co-worker for the companies HR manual. This is info that as temps, they are not privy to. I can only assume that they are trying to stir up trouble. Ya know, see what they can get me on kind of thing. I have not done anything to them directly and any time I have had an issue I have discussed it with management. I just feel that now they are going to try to get me fired or something. I keep my distance, and for lack of better wording do not even acknowledge them (they are like the wallpaper when I see them鈥here but not noticeable enough for me to really see it)! I don鈥檛 work with them on projects and therefore have no real need to even interact with them. Can I call the temp service they are working for and complain about the hostile environment they are creating? I have never made any HR complaints or really ever felt the need to before now. My gut is telling me that these girls arte up to no good. Part of me wants to let it be b/c I don鈥檛 think I have done anything but the other part of me is saying that I should beat them to the punch. Can I contact HR? Can it be anonymous? What can I say? What do I do? I am at a real loss here鈥lease help! You should contact HR but make sure you have solid evidence. To go in and tell HR it's something "in your gut" isn't going to help matters. Keep a list of what they do and say, date, time, exact wording. You're going to need it when you go to HR. Good luck!!! You can go to HR and advise them of your concerns, but be careful. If the girls haven't actually done anything wrong yet, then you might actually be the one that ends up making it an issue. Best to CYA though if you think they're up to something. it is always better to talk to the HR people, at least to see what your options are. Is there anyone you know in HR? That would be best. Be sure to talk to your manager that they are trying to access private info. You calling the temp agency won't look good. Start with HR and your manager. IF that doesn't work, well then call there company and anonymously ask some questions about these specific people. The people may know it is you, but do you really care?? Get rid of the problem!! I am assuming that you have voiced your concerns to your manager. Again, I have worked in staffing and I hate this phrase but in this case they are a "temp". If you manager has not done anything, I would go to HR voice your concern. Thery are contingent staff...you are permanent. The handbook has nothing to do with them. I'm sorry to tell them that it is for full time perm. employees NOT temp. If they have any concernes they should contact THEIR employer, the staffing service. You do not have authority to call the staffing service however, but do contact HR or if you know the contact person that deals with the temp staffing contact them. Years of staffing and HR Director. Handle this situation delicately and contact HR. Make sure they are aware of the problem but be diplomatic about it. Talk to HR - NOT their agency! You are right, they should not have the HR manual - you should voice that as part of your concern (you are right, they are NOT company employees) - but you can complain that they seem hostile and make it difficult for you to do your work. It would help if you have an exact example, but you are the FTE - HR should be concerned about YOU. Just call over there and set up a meeting (But set if up discreetly, you don't want these folks to know you are going to HR!) Best of luck! |
