Interview Follow Up?

I interviewed with a company last week & the Mgr said they would be making a decision sometime next week. They interviewed myself & 1 other candidate. I asked the Mgr if I didn't hear from them by Tuesday of their decision, could I follow up with them on Wednesday (1 week later) & should I contact he or the HR contact. He prefered that I contact the HR person on this. I left the HR person a detailed vm of why I was calling stating I was following up to see if they had made a hiring decision yet or if they had any questions for me and closed with I look forward to hearing from her. I placed this call on Wednesday of this week and she has not returned my call yet, not even to tell me I maybe didn't get the job or they are still working on it.

I sent thank you emails to the HR person, the other interviewer and the mgr. I had 2 interviews with the company.

Is this normal? How should I proceed? I am thinking they filled it & she is blowing me off now. Where is the coutesy of a call?

I would say let the long weekend pass and follow up on Tuesday. HR members are extremely busy and a return call to you is probably on their to do list. After two interviews, you are probably a good candidate for the job, just be patient.
Thanks for the comments! I decided to wait till Tuesday to call, and instead they called and offered me the job! Woo Hoo!

with the holiday weekend coming up, maybe they haven't made a decision yet. Maybe you should chill until Tuesday, and then call again

nice touch though with the "thank you" emails. most ppl forget that part
You should call the manager who interviewed you, this may be the only way you will know if they have filled the position or not or if maybe there was some delay in them asking you to fill the position and it shouldn't matter if it seems like you are bugging them especially if you didn't get the position. You just simply want to know either way.
Call one more time. Simply say, "I am sorry for bothering you. I was hoping to hear something this week. I really appreciate your time........
The worst thing that they can say is that you didn't get the job. If it is like my employer, they can't make up their mind and will put it off until everyone finds other jobs!
It sounds like you did everything right and having 2 interviews is a positive sign. It does take awhile for large companies to make a hiring decision because of their processes. The recruiter (HR person) may be responsible for several different areas of hiring and that may be taking his/her time as well. Best practice for a company is sending a letter of regret and hopefully this company has the courtesy to do so. Be patient and think positive! p.s. DO NOT CONTACT THE MANAGER!
