Problems at the office?

It has been brought to my attention that one of my employees at my firm is a homosexual.

I have received numerous complaints regarding this man's demeanor during office hours.

I am not sure whether or not I sure fire him as if I would, I would be accused of homophobia and of discharging without proper precedent.

How can I make this seem legitimate?

If you have not sat the employee down and let them know the behavior is inappropriate and allowed them to correct the situation you may be in trouble. You should investigate the claims made by the employees regarding this person the same as you would any other employee. Rule out the whole issue of whether or not they are a homosexual. That should not be a factor in this at all.
If it IS legitimate, you should have no problems making it "seem" that way. Stick to the facts and you should be okay.
Address this situation in the same way you would anyone else. If you had a female employee being inappropriate with a male employee, what would you do? You just have to be sure that it is handled fairly and equitably with all other harassment cases you may have had.
Why make it legitimate? You want to fire someone because of what he does at home in his free time. It's none of your business or any of the other idiots in your office.

Does he make improper sexual advances towards employees or customers? Does he have inappropriate literature or art work displayed? Has he broken anny established, written rule of your organization?

If not then your problem is not this gentleman, it is the ignorant bigots around him.

Fire him. I hope he sues you and your company for a billion dollars.

Then you can fire that girl with the short hair because girls should have long hair. And fire that guy who supports the wrong candidate for governor. And fire that a$$h@le who drives a Toyota. He should drive American.

This is American, land of the free. Where everybody is free to do as they please as long as you and your co-workers approve of it.

P.S. you are no rocket scientist either. Your questions reads like a 4th grader's.
Omit all conversation discussing his sexual orientation. It has no bearing.

Address any & all behavior that is inappropriate at the office. But get your facts straight - other employees may be uncomfortable with him, but not because of anything he is doing. They need to get over themselves.

To even consider firing someone because they may be gay is not only narrow-minded, it opens the door for other discrimations - hair length, hygiene issues, social demeanors, etc..

Nip the name-calling and pettiness in the bud now. Raise the bar and expect everyone to be professional.
What exactly are the complaints? Are they legitimate or just complaints brought on by fears of other homophobes in the office? Don't go making something up to make dismissing the poor guy look legit.
What do you mean "seem" legitimate?! YOU are the one that should be fired for lack of ethics and lack of professionalism. What is the matter with you? Don't you have an HR Dept that can advise you? And why would you pick on this person simply because of rumor and innuendo? Is there any proof? Any documentation?

Do you know what the term "demeanor" means?

You'd better think carefully about what you are doing. What if someone started a rumor about you at work?!

I can't believe someone who owns a firm would be so backwards. You'd better get some education or you will lose your company - and rightfully so!
