Is an executive assistant the same as a personal assistant? |
Is an executive assistant the same as a personal assistant? Executive Assistant is when you are responsible for the President/Owner or CEO, CFO, High Management Levels; you provide confidential administrative support to them. Screening their calls, taking care of their paperwork which they don't have time for but can't be shared throughout the office. Most Executive Asst. are working on inner office needs to the Executive Professional and has been an admin prior with a few years of experience in an office A Personal assistant takes care of a professionals inner work needs and outside work needs that they don't have time to take care of such as picking up dry cleaning, gifts (esp for business relations), picking up and dropping off things/people, taking their car to the car wash prior to an important meeting, lunch, or dinner, reservations even for some personal entertainment, you may run errands outside of the office that don't relate to the business but is nec. for the professional in order for him/her to take care of the business they are running because they just don't have the time to do it all. You may not need as much office experience but does need experience working with VIP type personalities because they can be a little demanding. An executive assistant is usually the "right hand" of one of the top executives of a company... but in bigger companies there can be more than one executive assistant. If you are assigned to one particular person and handle all of their business affairs, than yes you would be their "personal" assistant. Remember not to take "personal" to "personal" though... there is a difference between being a business (professional) personal assistant and someone's "slave". An executive assistant is what it says the assistant to an executive. Which means you assist that person in tasks that relate to his position running the business or company. A personal assistant assists a person in their business or position and with their personal affairs as well. That position can involve making bank deposits, picking dry cleaning, running errands ... as well as your various office duties. Hope this helps. |
