Put the customer on hold to sneeze? |
I work in a call center, and I got in trouble because I didn't put the customer on hold before I sneezed, but we have to ask the customer's permission to put them on hold. We say "Mr./Ms. customer I have to (state reason for putting them on hold), would you mind holding?". How do I put the customer on hold when I don't know when I'm going to sneeze, and I don't have any forewarning? Tough situation mate. if your interface has a mute button i would use that and sneeze and then continue, if the customer starts saying hello or looking for a response, just handle it by saying something like sorry the line was distorted or something of that nature and continue with the call. But i suggest its better for you to sneeze than put them on hold. Customers hate call centre people as it is, you dont need to be putting them hold or aggrovating them. Good luck buddy, i know call centre jobs are very tough. LOL! Your boss sounds like mine. That is ridiculous. I think all you can do is apologize for sneezing in their ear. Next time try to cover your mouth? - Mute button is a good idea too. LOL! Good luck with that one. Thats crazy there has to be law that would keep a sneeze from affecting your job. I've worked in call centers before, and the mute button was very useful in case you started to sneeze, cough, etc. Clearly you don't have enough time to go through the whole "May I" routine if you're about to sneeze, so the mute button is a good choice. If you DO happen to sneeze or cough while they can hear you, apologizing profusely is a good idea ;-) I've never had a customer get upset with me, and I've got allergies, so it HAS happened! wtf??? thats not fair by the time u ask them to put them on hold ur sneeze will be over what i would do is just put the mouth piece away from ur mouth but keep the ear peice so u can still hear them then sneeze say exuse me thats the best u can do I would just sneeze and say "excuse me". The person on the other line is human and understands sneezes come without any warning. If they get upset or are rude about it I would think your sneeze is the least of their troubles. |
