A career in HR (UK)? |
I am a psychology graduate (BSc), in admin and interested in a career in HR. The only problem is I get the impression you need a CIPD qualification which there is no way I would be able to afford. My question is would it be likely that a buisiness would send you for training at their own expense or would you be expected to foot the bill?? Also anyone in HR do you like your job and would you recommend it? You don't 'need' CIPD and as time goes on it's seriously becoming a bit of a laughing stock. Too much pink and fluffy stuff with little or no business benefit. As HR evolves into a 'business' function you find more and more serious HR players are all of non HR backgrounds. e.g. I'm regulalry asked what 'our people' add to the bottom line (remember, businesses are there to make money?) and CIPD offer me nothing. On the contrary I find the answers from leading business thinkers all the time - that is the future of HR. i.e. understanding how it helps the business, not in measuring days leave, sickness or staff turnover. CIPD is probably a good thing to add to your list but it's by no means the only or major badge of honour to warrant a good job in the area. HR is a great place to work and it's evolving fast - go for it! :-) Source(s): Head of HR for EMEA in large global company. I WANT TO GET INTO HR TOO! I don't have the CIPD, but yes it's needed or equivalent, so your BSc would be this. IO have worked in HR and it's a specifically concentrated area. Good Luck! I am an HR Analyst. I work for a very large agency (500+employees). Sometimes it is stressfull- and a lot of times the employees expect you to hand feed them, and a lot of times you have to. Make sure you have the patience for it. But on the other hand, HR is a click. Once youre in you are taken care of. |
