Should I quit? I've worked for 10 years? |
I work in an office for last 10 years. They don't inc pay, no bonus, no time for another job, no promotion. I wouldn't quit without another job lined up. Trust me, the 10 years with one company will look fab. on a resume. Make sure your resume is clean, professional, has no grammar or spelling errors, and put it out there. You may also want to use sites like monster.com. When I was looking to hire office help I always loved to see longevity at a job. Good luck! Time to look for another job first. I hope you've been putting in your resume to other companies. With your office experience, you should have not problem finding a better job. sounds like your at the end of the trail......what have you to offer, someplace new? An individual who has worked at the same position for ten years ,may seem good to some. But some companies want to see what your performance was during those years,such as advancements. Ten years and no advancements does not look good. Try theFederal Goverment, good pay ,vacation,advancement,benefits and no lay offs. At interviews let them know what your employer gave and DID NOT GIVE, that the job was a dead end but due to the responsible person that you are you did not leave the job. Go to a temp agency first try a "temp for hire" position . If the employer likes you he will keep you.If your office skill a above average you will have no problem...It also depends in what part of the country you are. New York area ,no problem.... You realize that once you've been on the job for ten years you will lose all seniority that you have and will have to start fresh. Sometimes the grass is not always greener on the other side. Ask around to see if first which places do offer progression. Also be certain that you have taken upgrading courses in your field. Many times this can be a hindrance to moving up and getting decent raises. Look for another job is there is no future there. Don't quit until you have another job secured. |
