In an 8-hour shift, how many hours do you actually spend working? How much downtime (boredom, socializing, etc In any industrial setting/office setting, you cannot expect a person to work 8 full hours (I mean 8 x 60 min.). The working hours are a general norm of your operational working hours. It all therefore depends how smart you invent your work. Find out the way to work smarter. For example, get rid of tasks that is no more required. In this efficient, you can accomplish the tasks and maintain your competitive edge in the current employment market I would say 5 hours but it depends on the job and bosses and stuff. I had a really nice job once. I worked very hard at it and did my best, which was more than enough to fulfill my duties in a satisfactory manner. However, when my work was done for the day, or I was ahead of/on top of my responsibilities and had reached a slow point in my day, I would go into the men's room and feed about two to three feet of toilet paper in to the toilet making sure it was still attached securely to the rest of the roll of toilet paper hanging on the wall. I would then flush the toilet and see how long the toilet paper would feed down into the toilet before it broke off the roll. This works best in those toilets that use a lot of pressure and therefore have a lot of suction. I think the longest the roll ever went (it didn't even break and only stopped because the toilet was done flushing) while the toilet flushed was about 8 seconds. Try it. It's fun! For this I was paid $23.86 an hour! :-D And please, no thumbs down for being jealous of my salary. I said I DID my job and I did it well! Efficiency in the workplace was a fad for a long time. Unfortunately companies have completely forgotten all the information that came out of that wave. It isn't just total time on the job, it's work at the actual job. All the answers may vary as to actual time on the clock. But completion of the tasks accurately and attention to the process are far more important. Most companies would like to expect 6 hrs out of an 8 hr job. Managers often complete closer to 7 of actual on-the-job duties... well, depends on how motivated I feel to work, I am working some days about 6 hours and some the whole 8 and sometimes less than 4 it really depends on what is thrown at me... about 6.5 hours. the remaining 1.5 hours I spend talking, goofing around, etc. In an 8 hour shift, atleast 30 minutes to 45 minutes are given for lunch time. Some time is consumed to answer nature's call and a few minutes chatting with colleagues or making personal phone calls. So working for 6 hours to 6 hours 30 minutes is acceptable in any employement. |
