I'm due for a BIG promotion-any tips on impressing the big bosses?

Besides just doing the best job I can. I work in the executive suite industry, I started as a receptionist, but was quickly promoted to Administrative Assistant. In January this year, I was transferred to another location to be in training for the Operations Manager position that's available at this center. My new boss, which is RM of the company, is training me. I will (hopefully by September 1, that's when my first annual review is) soon become the Ops Manager of this center, but what I want to know is: Is my boss expecting me to take innitiave on things that need to be done? Does she want me to go with the flow and talk to her about issues or does she want me to take the reigns, if you will, and take charge like I'm already running my center? I'm being watched very closely by her and the president, they are waiting for me to 'be ready' so my boss can move back to her old center. I want and need this raise, it's the highlight of my career! What do I do to get promoted fast?

MSA's M - what have you made for the company monetarily throughout your tenure? S - what have you saved the company? A - What have you achieved while you have been employed there? Thats what your manager wants to knowm how are you effecting the bottom line. How will you effect that same bottom line in your new position? We cannot answer those things for you however we can say that you should have a plan as to what you can make for the company what you can save them and what you achieve over the next 3 - 6 - 9- 12 months. SHOW you can set yourself up for success in your new position and that you have goals that you will reach and exceed. Do not over state those goals keep them reasonable, you are getting promoted for a reason so be confident that you will be as good in your new position as you are in your current one. Good Luck, I am sure that you will do great.
Congratulations on your success to date. It looks like you have been in the position about 6 months so you should have a good understanding of the operation and what is running well and what is not. However do you know who (prior/current management -- current team leaders, etc.) have implement/initiated what processes ? Why is the old boss going back to her old center -- was she successful/why -- is she popular with management/employees -- have lunch a few times and find out + float your ideas by her (if you can trus her). Gain from the ground already tread by someone else and hopefully avoid land mines.

Good luck
