I just got a raised in january, is it too soon to ask for another one? I do accounts payable in CA.? The only way you'd be able to get another raise so soon is if your responsibilities have changed a lot since January. If so, check out Salary.com to research competitive salaries in your area, document all the new responsibilities, and schedule a meeting with your boss. Odds are he/she won't be able to authorize a mid-year raise due to budget constraints, but when the time comes next January, your boss will have this information already and may consider a larger raise than you would have received. Yes it's probably too soon, unless you've gotten a promotion or your job duties have changed a lot. Even if they have, that might be what the January raise was for. Yes most people get raises once a year unless there is a job change or promotion. If you just got one in January, yes. It's ABSOLUTELY too soon to ask for another raise. The 2nd quarter has just finished, and most companies do not realize their profits/losses until the end of the 3rd quarter every year. You should wait until after the holidays and then ask for a raise. Doing it before then makes you seem ungrateful for the previous one, and just hungry to get more money regardless of how the company is doing as a whole. Also, asking for raises during the year is a good way to knock yourself out of a Christmas bonus, if one is available. Asking for a raise in January ensures a holiday bonus PLUS possibility for the raise. I'm an HR professional. |
