How do people stay at jobs for 5, 10, 15 years? |
I find myself getting bored of a job after a few months. I dont understand how to keep my head in the game and stay somewhere for such a long period of time. How do people do it? I was at my job for 15 years. I started as the office clerk (data entry, get the mail, filing, etc) and ended as a Director of the company. It was a fun challenge to discover what next steps could be taken to improve my situation every year and to earn respect and kudos. Along the way, the company paid for additional education and training classes. Also, with seniority comes great perks like extra vacation time and flex hours. After 15 years, I earned a comfortable pension that I will begin drawing in 12 years. I would never have lasted working the same job for so many years, although some people do it. You have to keep looking to the future, not just to the end of that day. Well, simple, it's a job they really like, and they know they will stick to it. For example: I like working w/ money, so I might want to work at a bank People find somthing they love or somewhere that gives them they money they want and stick with it! they must like their job.. find a job that you really like and stick to it have fun.. <>< I have been at my job for 10 years now. I too get bored easily, but am at a company that has allowed me to grow and learn new things frequently. Take on projects at work. You get to learn new things! Well, you are "happily married" so you have kept your head in that game for more than a few months presumably. I think it is a lot the same: don't sweat the small stuff, get happiness where you can, take each day at a time, and let good work be its own reward but the paycheck sure don't hurt none!!! I've been at my job for 8 years, and my fiance has been at her's for 9 years. Just do what you love. |
