Underpaid, overworked what would you do?

I am currently working at a company that pays me $4 below the general wage for my occupational title. I am experianced and have been denied a raise for the last year and half. I decided to go back to school to get a diploma in a career with some potiencial. I have 6 weeks left and now my work is loading on so much work and expects it all to be done before I leave. Still with no raise. I have expressed my time restraints and the fact that I am the lowest paid employee in the company. But they just politely asked that I complete my tasks. I do not want to burn any bridges but feel like I am being used for every penny they can get out of me. How can I retain a good referance when the deadlines and work are unrealistic in the time frame I have? Not to mention my growing bitterness.

You can only do what you can. If you give it your all and it is still not enough at least you will know that there was nothing more that you could have done and you can move on with a clear conscience. Even if you were a miracle worker and you were able to complete the tasks these folks sound like the type that would give a poor reference, regardless. So, just do the best you can and be happy that you are getting out of there.
take this job and shove it.
How do you *know* you are underpaid for you occupation in your area? Have you sought out other offers?

If you have other offers, take one! If not, don't put too much confidence in the supposed going wages for your position in your region. I get paid MUCH less where I live than if I did the same work in LA or NYC, but my cost of living is MUCH lower as well. That means the national average for a position may have little resemblance to the local average. The wages for your position in your area may be quite a bit lower than you think. Getting another offer is the best way to get a real feel for it.

Good luck!
Take time off sick so as to work on your studies more. You need to get out of the guinea pig wheel they have created for you. If deadlines are not met, that is not as bad as failing exams for a diploma that you need to get out of that situation. Stress is a common reason for taking time off, and you'll find the work is done while you are off sick, - no-one is indispensable.
References are important but not that important your qualifications and experience are worth more a lot of times these days employers have no time to follow up with references so i wouldn't really worry about it if you finish your 2 weeks but don't complete all the tasks so what I doubt they will give bad reference or see you in a poor light you've given them work when you didn't have to they should be grateful you didn't walk out the door and leave them with all the work plus the task of haveing to find someone to replace you.

I would just ride it out do the best you can but don't stress yourself you are moving on to bigger and better things and they should applaud you for that. plus if the company treated me like that I wouldn't care if I burnt bridges because I wouldn't want to go back there anyway.
Me
What do I do?
Slow down work to a comfortable pace and work overtime.
You are paid to work, not burn yourself out.
My motto...They'll get what they pay for.
If I'm paid 20% below the industry, I'll give them 20% below my potential and look for something else.
