When Putting In @ 2WEEKS Notice Do I Have Too Write A Letter??? |
>Hello as some of you may know...I Currently Hate My JOB.. ..I Was Thinking about quitting, On Friday 13th but i asume i will just stay, put my two weeks notice in .& get paid for two extra weeks. EVEN though my boss might NOT give me a good reference. dealing with the fact that hes been being a real jerk to me for the past 3-4 Months. However, Unless he just tells me to go ahead & go.Wich to me would be Okay. =).. I Was Wondering DO I HAVE TO WRITE A LETTER FOR THE NOTICE OF THE 2 WEEKS??? In most cases, you should give two weeks notice and with a written notice. All you have to say is you are resigning as of such and such a date. However, sometimes employees up and quit. However, that blows any chance for a recommendation. Even if you give notice, there is no guarantee, that boss will give a good reference. But, there prob. are other people who can recommend you. Even, personal references. Proper etiquette would say yes. Then you also have a record of how you quit. You should never burn bridges with past employers. He may not always be the boss there and you may need to go back. You never know what the future holds. Be on the safe side and write the letter. It doesn't take that much time. You should write a letter giving notice of your intention to leave in two weeks. If you are owed holiday you may be able to take that and leave a bit earlier. Your company may choose to pay you for the two weeks and ask you to leave immediately. Your boss must not give you an unfair reference, however if he genuinely thinks you've been a poor employee and has evidence to support his opinion, you would be better asking someone else. Depends on the type of job and company. Some major companies would like a written notice, but some smaller companies wouldnt matter... If you could be easily replace then no need for a formal letter, but it would be professional... Yes. Write a letter (or email) and keep a copy. Be nice and try not to burn bridges if possible. I would write a letter just so it is clear that you have decided to resign. Keep it brief e.g. I am resigning on 13/7/07. regards. It is very tempting to tell the boss to get lost but try and think long term ( difficult when upset by an idiot boss). A reference will help you get another job so try and stay away from him as much as you can. You probably should. They should put this in your company personel file. |
