When you look through files in a cabinet should they be face up?

When filing in a filing cabinet should papers be placed in folders so that you can view them up right when flipping through them, or should they be placed so when you take the file out of the cabinet you open the file like a book?

Does anyone know of a book that has the "how to" of filing?

In our office we place the files upright so you can flip through and read them easily.

I don't know of a book about filing, but check out the website below. Source(s): http://www.wikihow.com/organize-a-filing...
I file things face up. So the top of the document is toward the front of the drawer.
