What to do about this?


I'm thinking I have excellent interpersonal skills, until I go into a interview then I'm tripping over my own words. I thought my questions are very detailed, just to be told (at an interview) that they are not. how can I change this, since I live alone, and don't have many friends that are into office jobs, my friends are into housekeeping, laundry and other paying jobs. I'm embarrassed and ashamed!

Classes take time...find a workshop that'll give you the language you need to express your skills, abilities and aspirations. Contact Social Services (gov't section, County, of the phone book), ask them about job-placement services in the community, specifically "Job Search Workshops"(JSW). That's the fastest way to get what you need (support and information!) to go land your job(s).

First generation, yippee! You're starting a new chapter in your family's lineage! I'm the first generation to go to college as well. I used the county-based JSW, and it was incredible in terms of --not only information-wise but-- self-esteem building, confidence, poise, everything and anything you can imagine that comes into the picture when job searching. This is a great task, you GO GIRL!!!

You might look into some adult education classes at your local community college to broaden your horizons.
Sounds to me like you may have very good interpersonal skills. You stumble over your words because either:
1. you are nervous because you really want the job
2. the interviewer is intemidation you
3. you are excited
4. your trying too hard
5. your in a rush!

My advise to you would be to slow down, take your time, breath slow and relax!

There is nothing wrong with you thinking the question over before answering it. Many times when people try to answer the question to fast they talk around the question and never answer the question.
