Should I take a purse to an interview if I am taking a portfolio? |
I have an interview for an Executive Assistant position for the Vice President of a college. Should I take a purse if I am taking a portfolio? I know in the past it has been so awkward. Leave the purse. Regardless of whether its appropriate or not (largely a matter of opinion anyhow) you said its presence has made you feel awkward--and thats not something you need during an interview. If there's nothing you need from it, leave it locked in your car. You might want to remove just your car key from your key ring & slip that into your pocket to keep bulk out of your pockets. I know that it can be awkward with the purse and the portfolio. If you can, leave the purse behind & you'll be a lot more confident, comfortable and smooth. I think you should leave it. One less thing to carry and worry about. Leave the cell phone too. The last thing you want is to be/look awkward. Unless you anticipate a very long interview and there is something you will need that won't hide in a pocket or briefcase, leave purse in car. Calm, cool and collected is a good thing. I wouldn't take it with me unless you absolutely needed to. Usually I take a large briefcase/tote bag and have a leatherbound padfolio in which I keep my resumes. Then I can take notes if desired and it looks professional and also serves the same purpose as a purse! Good luck on your interview! NO.THEY ARE MORE INTERESTED IN YOUR PORTFOLIO THAN YOUR PURSE. GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS YOU. |
