Do YOU have any suggestions that will help me........? |
need some suggestions here. Maybe you can offer one or two to me. Here's my dilemma, I have good interpersonal skills, however, when I go to an interview, they disappear on me- I become an idiot, and don't do well. However, I just got off the telephine with a potienal employer, (have interview scheduled this Friday), and I showed her that I have excellent interpersonal skills, (that's what gets me the interviews!!) until they meet me!! Help!! thanks in advance!!! Perhaps you could get to the interview site (or nearby) a little early. Use the time to practice some measured breathing: starting at 60, count backwards, inhaling on the even numbers, exhaling on the odd numbers (60*inhale*59*exhale*58*inhale... so on). Count slowly and visualize yourself filled with quiet confidence and certainty that you can do the job. Someone once said, "You see what you believe." If you believe you're blowing the interview, then that's all you're going to see. But if you truly believe yourself to be a shy-but-infinitely-qualified job candidate, then you will see it and project that image more strongly. Remind yourself that your entire being does not depend on this job. If you go in with a positive attitude and demeanor, and still don't get the job, chances are it's nothing to do with you. Another candidate probably just seemed a better fit! Good luck--I'll think good thoughts for you on Friday! practice with someone who is willing to give you some honest feedback. Maybe a friend of your parents or someone similar to the age and profession of the people who will be interviewing you. that way you will have added confidence, having just done a trial interview and knowing what you can expect from yourself this time around When you go to the interview, tell them up front that you hate the whole interview situation and that it makes you really nervous. That will get them to try and get you to relax and give you a break. Once you break the ice that way, it should be easier to talk to them. I think you become to nervous and try to think to deeply and end up screwing up. What I reccomend doing is acting like the job doesnt mean anything to you. Kind of pretend like your just practeing for an interview and you dont really care if you get this job or not. Dont lose anysleep over it. I do this with job interviews and even when Im thinking about asking a girl out. It usually works for me. Just have to kind of trick your self into thinking this job isnt important and its just a practice interview. It sounds like you freeze up when you meet face to face with people. Before interviews try and get yourself in a mind set that these people doing the interviewing are no different than you. They get up in the morning put on their underwear, socks and shoes, go to work, pay bills, etc., just like all of us. Everytime you feel nervous in the interview remind yourself of that - helped me!!! Good Luck and GO GET THAT JOB!!! 脺 Practice interview questions with a friend or family member. If the interview goes south just be honest, "I'm sorry, I'm sure you can tell that I'm a little nervous. It's just that I would really like the opportunity to work for your excellent company. I want to make a good impression with you because I know that I would benefit you as an employee. I'm sure you understand yourself that interviews can make people nervous. I would appreciate it if you would be understanding." Practice what you want to say to the questions they might ask. I am sure they will ask some of the questions you have heard before. Do not be to nervous just relax and be yourself as you really are. Stop trying to hard to impress. Also, have some questions about the work you will be expected to do. Do not discuss wages and benefits until they bring it up or at the very end. Best wishes in getting the job. |
