How do i tell the people i work with to stop talking and work? Oh you'd hate to be in my office. Hehe. We get our work done but boy do we chatter and goof off. If you're in the middle of a big project that is very deadline oriented, you could be calm and professional and simply say, "Hey guys, I'm really busy at the moment and I'm having a little trouble staying focused. Would you mind keeping it down?" If you approach them rationally and not in a demanding tone, they'll likely be more open to respecting your wishes. If this doesn't work, document when they were talking and for how long and take this to the manager. You deserve to work in peace and if loud noises distract you from completing your work, then you have every right to take it to your superior. Good luck! If you are not a boss that would be hard to do unless you are very close to that person. You don't want to make enemy with anyone at work. If you are the boss then just call the person to your office and talk with that person about it. you don't...you let the manager do it & don't participate in the gab session. If you're left with all the work because of their lack of work ethic, then you can go to your manager & give him/her a heads up on the problem. Ignore them and work harder than they do. Jennifer Yup .. all depends on whether you are in management or on the floor. I work at both levels... and unfortunately, I'm the talker! LOL When I really need to concentrate on a project and others are talking and distracting me ... I put my dictation headset on and they think I'm listening to a tape while I type. It blocks out their chatter, and they leave me alone thinking I'm transcribing and can't hear them anyway. (silly, but it works) Infrequently you could say GUYS I AM TRYING TO CONCENTRATE HERE ! Eventually they will get the message somewhat. You can also work on blocking them out by focusing more intently on the current task. Good luck with an annoying situation. Are you able to bring small set of headphones and listen to music while you work? If so - do it! |
