What do you think? Please answer? |
I just had an interview over the phone. The position is for a receptionist at a doctor's office. During the interview, the guy asked me if I was married, if I didn't mind working overtime, do I have any kids. I thought it was weird, after all it's just a receptionist job. What do you think he really has on his mind? Should accept it or never show up? working overtime could effect a marriage and kids, i guess? i don't know it does seem a little weird. you should go check it out but if you feel uncomfortable at any minute walk out. I guess he asked because people with a family are less likely to work overtime and more likely to ask for days off when their kids get sick...It sucks because for a single person they assume that because you are single you have no life and would be more than happy to pick up the slack when a married person has a family emergency and need the day off. THe job probably has a lot of overtime, or times when you have to stay unexpectedly. He probably wants to know if that would interfere with your job. Relax, and don`t imagine something before it happens. It is weird that he asked those questions. My feeling is - let this one go. I don't know if the laws are the same across all states, but I believe the questions about marital status and kids are illegal. In my experience, people who do ask those questions are trying to weed out married women with children, since they believe those women will require more time off work. As to whether or not you accept the job, I suppose it depends on what you think he meant, and then if you want to work for/with someone like that. |
