My co-worker and I interviewed for the same job and it is very tense in our office. Help? We're not talking. Were you friends before or did you just 'get along'? Its an opportunity for you both, so whoever doesn't get it will be upset. The best thing to do is be gracious and polite. If they get the job, congratulate them, if you get it, don't rub it in their face. Just continue with how things were before, act normal. Grow up! The best way to break the tension is to be the 'better person' and be civil, if not friendly, to the other person. Don't let your supervisor see you acting like a child by ignoring the other person! You have added details to your question. Good, we can now give you a better answer to your query. You can go above the Supervisor and discuss your chances of being selected with his boss. You can ask who will make the final decision. But never never offend your supervisor. If you are selected he will give you trouble. If you are not chosen you can ask for a lateral transfer. Peace and blessings! The best thing to do is to tell your co-worker that you recognize that you both interviewed for the same job. Tell your co-worker that you know that it has caused some tension in the office and that you really don't want it to continue. Then tell him/her that you wish him/her the best of luck. This will break the ice and allow the person who is picked for the new position to go on into the new position without the old "monkey on his/her back". A very good selling point if there should be a new position come open where the other person works and can put in a good word for you. DISCLAIMER ...I will be brutally honest....stop reading now if you don't want to see the asnwer. you're done. seek another job/ or different position away from your current boss. You're going nowhere in a environment that fosters favorism. One of you isn't going to get it. If it isn't you, you can be a class act and congratulate the person who gets it. or, you can be a jerk.. in which event you;ll probably wind up being fired. Take your pick. |
