What info do I leave for my replacement? |
I just gave notice and I'm a little worried that they won't find a replacement before I leave so I want to list all of the important info for him/her. The position is for the office manager, so they would be in charge of everything that happens or should happen in the office. Can anyone suggest a checklist of info to leave. The best thing to do is leave them some quick instructions on the most important tasks you do, as well as a list of what those tasks are and how often they need to be completed. I've had to do this a few times before, and for me, the easiest way was to make notes of the steps as I perform each task, them type them up in an outline format. It would also be helpful to leave a list of your main contacts, both within and outside the company, and what each one does (in relation to your position rather than in general). That will give them a good idea of who to contact with questions on specific items rather than bugging the boss all the time. Of course, you're under no obligation to leave such information, but if you ever need to use someone at this job as a reference, hopefully they'll remember how organized and thoughtful you were and give you a glowing recommendation! You could notate which items you do on a daily basis, and then notate the basic schedule for the other items if they are not daily items. There is no possible way that you will remember everything and I'm sure the incoming person will not do it exactly the way you do. Start keeping a log of your daily activities and an easy to read how-to guide to your job. It's going to take you longer to complete your everyday tasks, but the new person will greatly appreciate any additional help. As the next few days go by write down what you do everyday fromthe moment you walk through the door. Little things like what each person likes and dislikes usually make the transition for a new person easier. Just leave a detailed daily description of what you do throughout the day. The person that is replacing you needs to learn a little as they acclamate. You have a good heart, they will miss you I am sure. How noble of you. However, I have never heard of anyone doing this? |
