Do you like working in an office? |
is it so boring? what do you do there? on computer all day?? Thank you =) No! Who does?! The only advantage is free internet! and in answer to what do we do all day...this! answer yahoo questions! Yay! Never worked in an office and by the sounds of it I am very glad I never did..... I like it..I read..Listen to music..Don't have to worry about annoying customers..Good pay..What's not to like? Fourty years since I worked in one --it was boring then and I can't see it having got any better. Yes!!! It SUCKS! Some office jobs are better than others. I worked at a housing authority as the executive director, and I got to do all kinds of things over the course of the day- meeting with contractors, discussing issues with tenants, touring the property on a golf cart, etc. How cool is that?! I also worked at a town hall as a management analyst, and that was pretty cool too. Again, lots of meetings and working on different kinds of projects at any given time. But now I work for the State in a giant budget office and it is HELL ON EARTH! Beware of cubicle farms! You sit in front of a computer all day with nothing to do, worrying more about what your boss and coworkers think about you than the job itself. That's why so many women are in those jobs- you need to be a social maven to survive, more than anything. You don't get fired from those jobs for being incompetent, you get fired for being disliked. It's basically middle school all over again. The work is virtually non-existent, since all of the real decision-making is being done by the executives. Plus the more work you do, the more stuff your supervisor has to review, which means no brownie points for you! But on the bright side, you get to sing happy birthday 90 times a year, and you'll have plenty of time to read that book you never got around to! If you see a big giant floorspace chock full of cubicles, RUN AWAY! But working in a small office, especially where you get to wear several hats over the course of the day, can be enjoyable. Some people on here don't mind sitting on their duff all day and wasting time, but for me it's absolute torture! I like to be active and feel like I'm doing something of significance, so a run-of-the-mill office job is not for me. But it might be your thing... so you need to ask yourself what's important for you in how much you enjoy your job. If you're a social butterfly, it might be absolute heaven for you! If you're a gruff ol hard-workin swamp Yankee like me, I'd rather dig ditches than answer these questions all day and play footsie with the office gossips. It's so emasculating! But you're not a man, so hey... could work for ya! Hey beautiful, I work in an office and it's OK. Get to spend a lot of time looking on the internet for music to download etc. Plus I can keep in contact with all my pals via email. It really depends what position you have, but yes you will either be on a phone or computer most of the day. You may be answering or making calls, fielding emails, doing spreadsheets, letters, powerpoint presentations, entering invoices, billing clients, calculating payroll, updating databases, research with the sec, get coffee, make travel arrangements, go to meetings in the office or away, distribute and sort mail, give out faxes, memos, copy and scan things into the system.. And so much more. Like I said there are a TON of positions, in a TON of different industries. For example if you work in a jewelry manufacturing office, that is going to be a huge difference in things to do than if you work in a financial services company. It can be nice, depending on your job/responsibilities. Also depends how nice your coworkers are. If you know what you are doing, work with nice people it can be nice. |
