I need my birth certificate and SS card - don't worry I'm no ID thief - need to know how?

Okay, I went in for orientation for my job today and this morning discovered that my mom (who is a fugitive) has my SS card and my Birth Certificate was lost years ago during a move. I don't have a passport, so my only form of ID is a drivers license.

So, I need either my birth certificate or my SS card, preferably both. Where do I need to go to get these? Must I apply, and if I do, can I do it online, or in my town?

Thanks for your help, points awarded to first good answer. And don't answer if you don't know, please.

You can get your birth certificate from the town/city clerk in the town you were born in. They can do this by mail and the fee is quite often minimal. Your social security card can be replaced by the social security administration. http://ssa-custhelp.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/ssa.... That is the link for a replacement card. Good luck.
You can look up the office online, where you were born you pay a fee for a new birth certificate, you can go to the Social Security office in your city and obtain a new SS card. Good Luck!
for your social secrutiy card you need to contact you local social security office, but I think you might need your birth certificate to get your new card to prove who you are, you can find you local office in your phone book and there is a section on getting new social security cards on there website, I think it's www.ssa.gov, wouldnt swear to it but you can just type in social secutity in your search bar and you should be able to find it.
Now for your birth certificate you can also go online to get this. I believe it's called VitalCheck. you can look up your bc as long as you know all the info like where you were born and your parents name. They mail it to you and you can choose how fast it gets there, though it can be a little pricey but if you need it quick it's worth it. Hope this helps and good luck.
Take you ID to your local SS office and order a new one. just tell them you lost it.
as for your Birth certificate you need to prove who you are pay a fee and get a new one at the records office where you were born.

now on the matter of your mom, If you are an adult and you know her whereabouts and you do not notify the authorities they you can go to jail if it is ever found out. for harboring a fugitive. This can really mess up any long term job that has a future.
You need to go to the county clerk's office in the county you were born in and fill out a form and provide ID to obtain an "original" copy of your birth certificate. It will have an official seal that makes it legitimate. You can then take that to a social security office and get a new SS card. You have to have a birth certificate to get the SS card.
You can get a copy of your birth certificate by mail or phone or online but you have to go through a LOT more hoops and have to provide much more ID, which it doesn't sound like you have. Better to do it in person.
For your birth certificate you will need to apply for that through the state you were born in. Check their web site to see if you can go in - in person if you live close enough to do so - with a money order and request a copy. If you can go in in person it will go faster, and if you can take in cash or a money order it will go quicker as well.

For your social security card you will need to visit the office in person to request a new card. Call them first and find out what documents you need to bring with you to request a duplicate card to be issued to you. (It will be mailed out to you they won't give it to you at the office) Save yourself some time and effort by calling first or reading on-line what the requirements are.
What state do you live in? Each state has different rules and regulations when it comes to what you need or who can request a birth certificate for you.

To apply for a social security card you need to provide proof of identity and citizenship. You can either go directly to the office and apply which will take a couple of minutes. If you do it by mail be aware that original documents need to be mailed in and then returned to you. Being that you donot have your birth certificate that may cause issues getting your ss card since you need to provide two forms that identify you.
