THIS IS FOR EMPLOYERS ONLY: Is it good to...? |
Is it good for a potential employee to send a thank you letter after an interview? Does it sway your decision to hire them at all? For instance, if you interview two people with the same qualifications and skill level, and one send a thank you letter, and the other doesn't, whom are you more likely to hire? Also does it seem to desperate? Or you find it flattering? As an employer, a thank you note would be a nice touch. If I had two or three people running close for the position and one sent a thank you note, I wouldn't say it would make me hire them, but it would make me keep them in the front of mind, just because, like you said, its a little reminder of who you are. Good Luck to you! there are some genuine people left in the world, give them the benefit of doubt he/she's just trying to butter you up. it shouldn't sway your decision one way or the other. its a tactic for you not to forget about the applicant. the one best qualified and the one with the personality that will work well with your office environment should be hired. Every article I've read regarding the interview process recommends the interviewee send a thank you note or card. Call it etiquette if you will. I always choose the applicant with the better qualifications no matter what. I would never hold a thank you note against somebody. They prob wouldn't earn any extra points in my book, but they might in others. I'd say go for it as most people will either think nothing of it or slightly more positive about you because of it. Nothing bad can happen. I wouldnt let it sway me. If I had two people with equal qualifications and I had it narrowed down to just them, I would then go with my gut instincts on which person would be a better personality fit with the team. A thank you note is nice, but not influencial in anyway. Thank you's are a nice gesture but do it just to do it - if it's just being yourself. It does not sway in a hiring decision but it is nice getting them. |
