Should I continue to look? |
I have had my position as an assistant in a fashion company for 4 months. It has been a great challenge and I have seen alot of change in me because of the challenge. However, it has come apparent to me recently that maybe I took the wrong job again. Between last April and this April, I was in and out of unemployment. A part of me says to stick it out, I need to regain the confidence to do the job and I cannot have this job hopping on my resume. This is a challenge and in the past few years, I have not been one to back down from challenges and I am not the type to job hop. However, another part of me says that my lack of educational and previous professional experience is affecting me negatively and if I had this experience, I might not making the mistakes I am making. This experience has also negatively affected my self esteem. I've started to look for a new job. Not that I've gotten calls for interviews, but I am not sure if I should continue. You should continue my friend. Experience>> whether you fail or you reach your goal still its the best way to gain your confidence and can uplift your self esteem. Grab the opportunities thats on the way and someday you wont regret from it. Time is gold. well duh the first couple months are always hard get some balls and deal with it basicaly keep the job 4 one more year then deside Give it until the end of the year, if you still feel the same way then leave. But why not keep looking anyway - you might find something you like even more! GO TO YOUR BOSS AND ASK THEM FOR ANY FEED BACK ON YOUR JOB PERFORMANCE. LET THEM KNOW HOW MUCH YOU LIKE THE JOB AND HOW IT IS CHALLENGING AND REWARDING TO YOU AND THAT YOU ARE AWARE OF YOUR PERSONAL GROWTH AS A RESULT. LET THEM KNOW YOU WANT TO PLEASE THEM AND ASK FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS THEY MAY HAVE TO IMPROVE YOUR WORK. NOW GO GET 'EM GIRL. Yes, You should I would say to try and stick it out for a year - that is how you get the professional experience, continue to look just in case the perfect job shows up on your doorstep, and maybe start taking a night class or two if you think that lack of educational experience is affecting you ... In your second paragraph you say that you have taken the wrong job AGAIN. and that you have been in and out of jobs for a year. I don't know you, but those could be keys. No one grows from taking a job they already know how to do perfectly and everyone who takes a job that contains new challenges will make mistakes while they are growing into the job and learning how it works. That's normal. Education is critical for some kinds of jobs for example it's pretty hard to grow into being a physician or a dentist without proper training. Many jobs though are better learned by the experience of learning how to do them in the real world. The people who hired you, if they did a good job during the employment process, knew who they were getting and probably realized that you would require some time and growth to become the employee they eventually hope to have working with them. It may be that you are being to hard on yourself or that one of your superiors has a style for correcting you that shakes your confidence. You will have to decide that. If you are learning and improving, keep up the good work and be grateful for the opportunity to grow. If you are making the same kinds of mistakes over and over again, that's different and maybe you would be better served in another position. BTW, it's called self-esteem because it is the way we view ourselves. A job doesn't cause self-esteem issues and neither does a boss. You have to decide what it is about you that makes you a person worthy of esteem and be true to the qualities you identify. When you have mastered that you will have the kind of confidence that situations can not shatter. |
