How to get a raise ... and get support from supervisors? |
I have held an employment position for 10 years at the current job I have, which includes all sorts of responsibilities, ranging supervision of coworkers, to snowplows...all on a solo shifts... I have so many responsibilities, that it has become frustrating, not only for my earning potential ... , but to avoid conflicts with supervisors or corporate regulations.. I would like to know a stragetem to ask for an increase in salary.. and how to gain support from bosses, rather than going to the NYSDOL or contacting the National Labor Standards...... I work durning the evening hours get a copy of your current job description and get a copy of the next level of job description. highlight the differences between the two jobs. are you doing the these things on the higher level job description. schedule a career planning dialogue with your boss. anything that you aren't doing that is on the higher level job description you ask for h elp in getting those experiences and start documenting those . ask for a meeting in one to three months to get feedback... let the boss know that you want to advance and ask for their support in giving you the experience and training in order to do so. good luck. Sell yourself. (Become a suck up) Well...what you should start with is the job description of your job. Compare complexities etc... of work you perform with that description. Compare with similar jobs elsewhere. This will clearly show whether you are in the correct salary range. Maybe it's time to move on - you sound unhappy. People with a great attitude get farther ahead. Good luck. Life 101 |
