I am thinking of taking an admin job while I look for something better. What notice period can I expect? |
I am thinking of taking a customer services/admin role for 16.5K while I search for a job related to writing that would be more of a long term career. I am just wondering what sort of notice period a job like this generally requires (if i took the job, how long of a notice would they want before I could go into a new job). Do positions like this generally require a certain amount of time in the job? I need decent references so I can't screw them over but I need to be employed!!! if you are a staff (entry level, and you have other people sharing the same position) you can resign right away, tender the resignation effectivity to immediately, meaning one day and your off. (resign only if you are really sure that you got the other job!) companies tends to say 30 days prior notice etc. etc. blah but they cannot held you for a better opportunity. as for positions like you are the only one who know what you are doing, train 2weeks and off you go. once hired for the new position, tell them that you are still employed and ask for that timeframe. Source(s): resigned 3 times! good luck! If they provide any amount of training since you will either be dealing with customers face-to-face or on the phone, they will have full expectation that you will stay. The customary notice for most jobs are two weeks which allows them to look for a replacement. While some employers may react personally to your leaving, it is best that you be a professional when giving notice and finish your obligations as you may need them for a reference later on. When it comes to job references, a reference is about the long-term performance you've accomplished while employed there. It is not about you being there for a short period and then moving on. If you want to tell the next employer about the work-related tasks you managed at the previous (short-term) employment, then do so. He will understand your desire to look for opportunity. Learn the art of verbalizing what your long range goals are and if your present employer cannot add to your goals, then it makes sense to look elsewhere, right? Two weeks notice but try to work there for at least one month. |
