What is the ideal wpm count in typing? |
I type 50 wpm. Is that good or not? 50-60 for secretary of small office or light work load 70-80 for large work load, big offices, or someone who has to always type professional letters that's decent but good is considered 70-80 wpm usually. at least that's what alot of employers look for. That would be alright for a beginner secretary (junior). A regular secretary for a large company would want at least 60-70 wpm. You can always increase your word speed and accuracy by practicing on test books from the library. That is only one aspect of a secretary. Others include working on someone's calendar (scheduling meetings, appointments), setting up meetings (and providing food and/or beverages), traveling (coordinating with a travel agency with air fares, hotels, and possibly car rentals), providing car service to and from the airports, and doing their expenses (usually a credit card with which all these plus meals are purchased with and needs to be paid through the company). There are more, but that increases with your experience. So does the salary (and that also depends on the level of your manager, the size of your company and where it is located - State). Oh yes, and talking on the phones, having a professional voice: ABC Company, this is (your name) or Mr. So & So's office, may I help you? Good luck to you. Any typing speed that exceeds 35 wpm is good enough. I have been applying with different temp agencies. Some want you to have 40 WPM and others 60 WPM depending on the job. I would say 50 WPM and 90% accuracy is good. At least 70 wpm like myself. I never cared how fast you could type. I cared about how WELL you could type. |
