When being interviewed, do you say "uhmm" as filler? |
to fill in thegaps as you think what to say, or you do it unconsciously? and does it look bad? yes whe im nervous. when at an interview, get hold of yourself with this. instead of umm try pausing for a while, while your collecting your thoughts. it does look bad if you say it correctly. ive had mock interviews and watched myself back on tape. uhm sucks. do not use it. its better if you are just quiet and take time to think before answering. this makes you look more professional. i try to practice by trying to eliminate uhms from my daily vocab. however, u are human so they will understand and it wont be a big deal if you only do it a couple of times. What ever you do, don't say Um in an interview. If you're starting your sentence and you're not sure what to say, say "Well..." If you are in the middle of your sentence, then just a slight silence is best. Don't say "Um," or "Uh." Yes! You definately should try to stay away from saying "umm..." It gives a bad impression on the person who is interviewing you. People unconsciously say "umm" to try to fill in the gaps, when they obviously aren't sure, or doesnt know how to link two ideas together. Personal Experience/ CEO it is a little bit of both. it definitely looks bad- especially when you use uh hm a lot. the employer may think that you wouldn't handle stress very well, or that you get easily unnerved by certain questions. before getting an interview always practice, practice with someone that you may not always be fond of or am intimidated by that person, that way, you can put yourself in check every time that you use uh mm instead of an actual word or as a way to cover up a mistake that was made in an answer. Uhmm, not just at interviews. |
