Do people receiving Centrelink payments get taxed?

Do people receiving Centrelink payments get taxed?

when you apply for entrelink payments you elect to either be taxed or not, and if so you tell them how much a fortnight you want to be taxed. if you haven't elected to be taxed, then no you won't be. Source(s): i'm an accountant
I dont think so. Its been a while since I was on the dole, but u could elect to have a small amount taken out, it was optional.
im pretty sure they have an option wether to or not. if they dont get tax taken out it ends up deing deducted from there next tax return they lodge
If your Centrelink payment is your only income, you won't need to pay any tax because your income is too low. You can however elect for Centrelink to deduct tax from your payments - this is useful if you have another source of income in addition to your Centrelink benefit.
