Who pays more tax - Aussies or Kiwis?

It depends on what type of tax you pay. The GST is 12.5% in New Zealand. However New Zealand has only two rates of income tax at 21 and 33 per cent with company tax at 33 per cent. Australia has higher income tax brackets at 35.5%, 44.5% and 48.5%. If you want to look at comparative tax rates for various types of tax, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development which both countries belong to have spreadsheets available for download.
