Are gambling winnings taxed in australia?


What is the general view of taxes on gambling winnings by the federal and state governments? Are there any taxes at all?

I'm also looking to specifically gain infomation about gambling winnings in relation to internet poker. Has the federal government passed any legislation on internet poker at all?

no tax on winnings unless it is via a competition/ lottery generally it has be a massive amount for taxes to be charge in those circumstances too...

not sure on the internet poker rules, although it does raise some questions....
No gambling winnigs are generally a winfall gain and therefore tax free unless of course the ATO can show that you are a professional gambler.
