How do you find your tax file number?

i have lost my tax file number and I cant call them to find out what it is because they are closed and I cant seem to find out how to get it on the website so please can someone help me....

You will need to find an old tax return or something with your TFN on it. Otherwise I'm afraid you will have to wait until Monday. Sorry :(

PS Just thought of something. If you are employed your employer should have your TFN on file. Some employers even put it on the weekly payslip!
It would be your social security number, unless you're a business and are talking about your EIN.
to get your tax file number from the ATO you need to complete an application for TFN - same form as if you want a new one - and they will send it to you.
They dont normally give it over the phone because they want you to prove who you are and to do that require you to quote numbers from your last assessment - if you had that you would have your TFN.
I will get back to you with the web link......

phew - no wonder you couldnt find it - I make my living outa that page (chartered accountant) and I had trouble.

http://www.ato.gov.au/content/downloads/...

that is the form you need - it has instructions
there is a phone number on it - but they can be difficult to deal with - make sure you have a drink and a potty before you make the call.
have fun
