Do I get more tax back if I have been studying after hours? |
Do I get more tax back if I have been studying after hours? You can, but you have to be able to justify the expenses and show how it relates to your income. You can't work as a checkout operator and claim studying French as a tax deduction. You need to be able to document what is being claimed and how you came up with those numbers. Books, course fees, travel from work to school is likely claimable. (But not to & from home) You may even be able to claim part of your internet fees, electricity and rent as education expenses, but you have to be able to proportion them. If you're surfing the net 99% of the time and only using it 1% of the time for study, then only 1% of the cost is a tax deduction. It's best to check with your tax adviser to see what records you need to keep at the start of the studying, rather than wait till the end of the year and then try to remember what you spent etc. Source(s): Financial Adviser Studied part time while working www.ato.gov.au Only if you have a receipt. Long Live Jambi No, but you do get quite a bit if you rob a bank. Of course, how much do you want? No 'fraid not. No. Why would you? |
