Declare income or not? |
I'm a canadian citizen but I've been working on cruiseships for the past 6 years for at least 10 months every year. I'd like to find out if I have to declare that income or not as I was told by friends that it isn't necessary. I've even asked revenue canada about it but they couldn't give me an answer. Thanks. The key question is, were your a resident of Canada? Or were you living somewhere else? If you are, then you must pay tax on all world wide income. The next question is, were taxes deducted from you while working for the cruiseship? If they were, and the company was a US company, then you will only have to pay the difference of tax between what you paid the host country and what Rev Scam would of billed you. Secondly, NEVER EVER call CRA and identify who you are when ask questions, as there is a very good chance that this was recorded in your diary notes that they have on everyone. Cheers, Cory Source(s): My brain yes everyone who is a canadian citizen has to declare thier income...you could get audited if you don't and they catch on. My dad the tax man If you are talking about declaring for Canadian taxes, I have absolutely no clue. However, for a canadian citizen working in the U.S. you do not need to declare if you recieved less than 10,000 in compensation. However, if you make more, you still might not have to declare the income if you are employed on a cruise ship (as you were) if it were operated by a canadian resident.
