Is it required to file income tax return in Canada if he/she did not work for the whole year?

Even though you did not live in Canada, you may still be considered to be a Canadian resident for income tax purposes.

Note that in the year of move, it can get rather complicated, as it is possible to be deemed a resident of both countries for the year. I would see an accountant. Source(s): Moved to US from Canada 8 years ago.
Any one receiving child tax benefit and/or GST( and wishing to continue to receive) should file a tax return even if he/she does not have income.You should note that people who are not resident in Canada are not eligible to receive the above payments.
Canadians are taxed besed on residency on their wordwide income.Any Canadian resident earning income from the US should report it in his/her tax return unless he or she has cut ties with Canada and informed Canada Revenue and Customs that he or she became a non-resident of Canada.
