Need help from an accountant/tax expert!?

I'm a student and am wondering what will happen if I check off the common law status on my income tax return. My fiance makes a decent amount of money. Will this affect the amount I can receive for student loans? How will this affect the refund I receive for my taxes. Also, how will this affect the tax refund my fiance receives?

There is not a "common law" option. The categories are Single, Married filing joint, Head of Household, or Married filing separate.
