Why do Canadians living abroad not pay taxes to Canada?

When Canadians living in Lebanon were rescued by Canada, the Canadian taxpayers paid the whole shot. Now these same Lebanese Canadians have gone back to Lebanon. They do not pay taxes in Canada. Is this fair?

AS far as I am concerned, no. If you want to take advantage of a country's benefits, you live in that country. And you take on its customes, traditions, and values.

If you want to live somewhere else, you ask that country for citizenship. That means you are making a choice to become a FULL citizen of the new country. You are moving because your old country has too many problems, so dont bring them to your new one.

Asking to be a citizen of convinience REALLY sucks! If you don't contribue into the system, don't expect the system to bail you out. There is a lot more to being a citizen then filling in the paperwork and getting dual citizenship. Loyalty means if Canada needed you, you would send ships to rescue Canada. It is not a one way street. And these leaches who have dual citizenship and who don't put a cent into Canada are so busy backing up a one way street they forget their selfishness is taking food out of the mouths of children in Canada who are less fortunate, but still live there.

Is it fair? No.
becuse they are living abroad and would be taxed twice
Not only are they not paying taxes, they are collecting Canadian pensions. The whole question of dual citizenship is overdue for review.
It's extremely fair. They don't pay because they're paying where they are currently working.
In the same respect, when non-Canadians work in Canada, they must pay taxes to your country.
I understand you wanting to know where your tax dollars are, but imagine how you would feel if you were in my shoes, American living in Japan, making OK money but nothing spectacular since the cost of living here is so high. Meanwhile, Bush and some other bad people are trying to draw attention away from other problems by suggesting that there are tons of Americans living overseas getting rich because they are not paying taxes in the states. This is simply not the case. I would end up paying the majority of my money in taxes between the two countries.

I'm not Canadian, so please enlighten me. If they are contributing nothing to Canada then how are they able to have citizenship? I thought Canada had a policy that immigrants had to prove financial contribution to the country to gain citizenship? And if they were born in Canada but are of a different background, do they not have the right to go and learn of the country of their ancestors?

I thought you all were supposed to be so much better and more accepting than Americans...
