I am a Canadian providing IT services in US for a US company. Should I charge GST on services provided?
this deserves more than one word.
NO you do not have to charge GST on this service outside of Canada. If you do charge it, then you simply have to remit it.
Extra point -- if your work is $1000 and you add $60 (6%) GST to the invoice, then you have to remit the $60 to the CRA....BUT, if you simply invoice the company $1060 and state "taxes included", you do not have to remit the GST and you have earned a bonus 6% for the job. (as long as you do not stipulate 6% gst since this sale is not typically taxable)No, who are you going to pay the Goods and Services tax to? US doesn't have GST.
