Why does the government go after people who were sick and could hardly work and hardly made anything? |
I've been audited from 2002 and apperntly I owe over $15,000 in back payments and intrest because I filed wrong. I made min. wage all that year. Does that sound right? And last year I was off sick for 2 months in total and all I got was a Employment Insurance check for $300 and they are saying I owe them money on that too. Because you were one of the people using the system. If my taxes supported you during that time the least you can do is give some of it back. cause Governments like to Screw you in the A.s.s .. anyway they can. Dont ya miss being a kid .. with out all these worries ?? .. i sure do !! if you made minimum wage you didnt earn enough to owe 15,000. even with interest and penalties. could be mistaken identity, wrong ssn being used. my wife and her brother have ssn only one number apart. the irs mistakenly used the brothers ssn for my wife's and hammered on her for back taxes. it took her almost 2 years to get them to figure it out and quit. she was in the military at the time of event, living and working in alabama. her brother was living in the st louis mo area and the income in question was earned in st louis. it still took hundreds of hours and phonecalls and mountains of paper before she could convince them it wasnt possible for her to have been working in both places at same time. get a lawyer, let them handle it. it will be worth the money in the long run. No it doesn't sound right. I assume you are dealing with Revenue Canada; if that's the case hold off on the lawyers for right now. They enjoy nothing more than stretching things out and overcharging you. Find a tax expert (avoid h&r block at all costs), someone who is good and has been dealing with Revenue Canada for years. You don't need legal help yet (who knows maybe you eventually will, but then there's time for that), have your expert calculate what you owe if anything. Get info from RevCan and start there. You also can use Appeals process, Fairness requests, and even your local MP (this is what they get paid for) -- all without getting rooked by a lawyer. Canadian Income Tax Act and experience |
