In Canada, do I still file a Tax return if I haven't worked? Yes, you still file because you are still eligible for refunds on GST and PST if you live in a province that collects it. If you live in Alberta, we received royalties on oil and gas and each person received a cheque for $400, even babies! If you're not in Alberta, file anyway, you never know what you might be eligible for. Yes. You will qualify for various refunds anyway. These include a percentage of rent paid, tuition paid, and if you live in a province with PST you will get a PST refund as well. You can get a refund even if you don't work!? ****, I'm moving to Canada!! yes.I am an accounting student who is about to go to Canada,and our teachers there told us that we should do that! yes, income return is not just about reporting how much money you earned during that year, but its also allow government to collect information for that particular person, region, area and province for statistic purpose.
