Can I collect Canada Pension? |
If I want to retire outside of Canada can I still collect from the Canada pension plan? I'm no expert, but as it is a 'pension' plan, I believe that depends on if, when, for how long, and how much you paid INTO it, irrelevant of whether you live here at the end. It's not like welfare.....it's something you pay into, in order to get something back.ya you can collect pension from canada . it is not taxable in india because this is not earned in india.it comes under the head transfer payment, you can collect CPP if you paid into it at all in canada, if you reached retirement age (as early as 60 to begin collecting), and you are "substantially retired", which means earning less per month than your monthly pension amount. yes you can still collect if you move out of country. you are still required by law to file returns even though outside canada. if you choose to declare yourself as a non-resident once you move, be prepared to have the government withhold about 48% from your pension. consult your tax expert as it may be better to file annually and pay less than non-resident withholding. Happy Retirement. The sites http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/en/isp/cpp/cppinf... and http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/asp/gateway.asp?h... are useful for me and also 1 800 277-9914 is a good source. If you live abroad you are also entitled to Old Age Security if you've lived in Canada for at least 10 years from the moment you turned 18. There are a few other conditions that may change over time. Yes you can collect CPP no matter where you live, so long as you paid into it. With OAS, it may be different - depends on a number of factors. |
