Is it true that Canada will now tax royalty trust dividends in a heavier manner than before?

In the recent past, most of these trust stocks experienced a sharp drop in price, reportedly due to this development which would adversely affect unitholder yields. I have not found an actual news report making such an announcement.

"The Conservatives proposed rules would apply a new tax on the money distributed to shareholders by newly formed income trusts. Existing income trusts would be given a four-year transition period, ending in 2011, that would allow them to adjust to the new rules.

"Flaherty adds corporate income taxes would be cut by 2011 to remove some of the market incentives to forming income trusts. " Source(s): http://cfra.com/headlines/index.asp?cat=...
