Just need your opinion please? |
I am writting a paper for english 101. my topic is increased power bills/rates. for this portion of the paper i need to propose a solution to this problem. If you have a suggestion for ways to decrease these bills, more so to do with the power companies. what can they do? also i need to be able to back it up with arguments such as where will ex. ameren IP (power company) get the money to make these changes. i am stuck on that part. so if you all have any ideas on how to raise money to implament such propsed changes let me know please. again i need ideas on what our power companies can do to lower power bills, as well as all details surrounding these problems. thanks a bunch Power companies could reduce your bills by reducing their overhead costs. This can be done in many ways: The obvious is layoffs, consolidating positions and removing employees. Another way is to reduce their costs of procured goods. For instance, there are a lot of components involved in power production, Everything from the chemicals used to keep the plant working to the wire and cable lines that go to your house. If they reduced the amount they spend in each category (by sourcing to lower cost suppliers, or alternate technologies) they could reduce their overhead costs. Also, opposite to the point above about breaking into smaller companies, they could merge with other companies. With a merger, they could have less people doing the same work, since many of the jobs are redundant, and they could reduce headcount. Power companies could also increase the cost of peak hour electricity and gas (during the day) and decrease the cost at night. This way businesses will pick up a higher cost, but consumers will get lower prices. Power companies should be divided up into smaller companies. There should be no less than three companies available to each home. By forcing people to choose only 1 service provider in their area, they are in fact installing a monopoly. More choice, lower price. I agree with the guy above me. more competition would drive down the price, also if they burned a cheaper feul such as coal (not sure if its cheaper though) or if they sold alternative power generators such as a solar panel or wind mill so that their customers would only have to make one big onetime payment rather then an infinite amount of little ones. This would be cost efficent in the very long run for the customer and provides lots of instant revenue for the power company if they are the ones selling the generators. |
