How do I approach big companies for donations...?

such as gifts, discounts, days out or such for a internet-run support group for single parents? The more detailed, the better! Many thanks!

You should have an official letter drawn up and send it to them, telling them exactly what will be done with their money, and if they can deduct charitable contributions to your organization.

You should deliver the letters in person, when possible, and get the name and number of the person who is authorized to decide whether to donate or not. Then call them later.

Be polite. Drop off one letter, make one phone call. If there is no interest, just let it drop and move on. And always keep in mind the smaller businesses. They can't contribute as much, but it's easier to reach a person who can authorize contributions.

And give receipts for all donations.
