I'm looking to start a trucking business and need to learn all i can what does ICC/FHWA BOC-3 US DOT# mean hlp First get your CDl. Truck drivers have a hard time getting credit becouse of the high amount of defaults that happen do to poor buisness preperation of the owners. If you want to sit at home and live off what the drivers bring in for you your probaly going to need about 10 trucks. Since you'll have little or no benefits you'll have to hire some 30 drivers a year to keep your fleet going. The interstate comerece commision, and department of transportation are the least of your worries. After 9-11 I got locked out of my career for a couple of years and ended up buying my own truck and leasing it to a company. It was always hard work trying to keep pushing just to get past the first year which is where either you make it or break it. So if you go this route in life by the cheapest used truck you can live in, and fuel economy is king. A freightliner Century Class is roughly 1000-1200 cheaper to drive per month then a Peterbilt 379 when I drove in 2003-2005. I liked the answer from thechale, and I'd add you also need exceptional business sense, personal frugality, and hard work. |
