I was just informed by Verizon that my one year $14/month deal is almost up and now I would have to start paying $21/month for my internet service. I will switch companies before I do that - but I was wondering if anyone has had any luck (or advice) on negotiating with Verizon to remain at my currrent cost. I'm assuming they have the power to be flexible (like negotiating APRs with credit card companies). I'm assuming they bait people with the "low cost" and then just hope they will continue to pay the higher cost and avoid the hassle of switching companies. By the way, the company I'm thinking of switching to is DSL Extreme which is currently advertising service for $12.99 per month.
I do not have personal experience in negotiating Verizon internet service, however I have done this many times with both cellular and home telephone service through them. You might want to suggest signing a contract of some sort, such as a 12 month deal for your current price or even $15 a month.
The other option would be to ask if they will beat a competitors deal, which is $12.99 a month (or whatever it is) for a 1 year contract. If they can meet or beat it, tell them you will continue to use Verizon, otherwise you thank them for their past service and tell them you want to end your contract at its expiration date.
Ask for the "retention department" when you call them. |
